Casino employees in a “well-ventilated” casino had metabolized nicotine levels 3 to 6 times higher than in other smoking workplaces during a work shift.2
Casino employees exposed to secondhand smoke have increased risk of developing lung cancer and heart disease.2
After four hours in a casino with a “sophisticated” ventilation system, nonsmokers had 4.5 times the level of nicotine in their bodies compared to those not exposed and their level of the carcinogen NNAL increased by 112%.2
Air pollution was measured in two Nevada casinos: The smoke-free casino had air quality equivalent to the outdoors; the smoking casino had air particle pollution levels 5 to 18 times higher.2
Casino dealers had increasing levels of cigarette carcinogens in their urine after an 8-hour work shift.3
Nearly half of casino dealers reported secondhand smoke-related symptoms including irritated eyes, cough and stuffy nose.3
